Keeping Up with the Clubs

As state and regional competitions take place and the school year nears an end, clubs are beginning to wrap things up and plan for next year in addition to continuing their regularly scheduled events.

Student Council

February was a big month for Student Council. The organization had their annual spring blood drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross, and the duo hit their goal of 30 pints of blood donated. They also had their now annual 5 on 5 Basketball tournament fundraiser with an awesome turnout and close games. Within the club, the student issues committee also distributed feminine items in all the girl’s restrooms and now continue to restock those weekly as the year progresses. The committee also purchased another microwave for the cafeteria but is looking for a table and outlet to get it set up and working. In addition, community service activities will help CCHS Project Graduation in bringing in Easter items and also feminine supplies for the high school.

Beta

During the week of March 6, 45 CCHS students and sponsors traveled to Lexington, Kentucky for the Kentucky State Beta Convention. The yearly Beta Convention gives students the opportunity to strengthen their academic and leadership skills, showcase their talents and artistic abilities, and interact with Senior Betas from all across Kentucky. Beta Club is pleased to inform Laker Review readers that Calloway County High School placed in the top five within 17 different categories. FBLA

In addition to Regionals, members of Laker FBLA have been doing community service at Brookdale Assisted Living for the past three months. Students who went did so as part of a Community Service Project that they entered into their regional competition at the beginning of March.  Volunteers go every few weeks and lead activities for the residents.  So far, they have made Christmas decorations, decorated cookies, and made bookmarks with residents.  Every member who has attended has loved the time spent with the residents, and they look forward to planning more activities for future visits.

Leo Club

On Friday, April 3rd, Leo Club will be sponsoring the school's first All Boy Volleyball Tournament during 3rd block. Second lunch will move up to 12:00 that day, and the game will begin after that. Each grade will be represented by a team to compete against the other grades, and the winning team will participate in a final game against teachers. CCHS Students can watch the games by donating $1 to the Leo Club.  Students will pay their 3rd block A Day teacher, and it should be noted there will also be concessions available during the games.
